A Busy Spring at the New York Studio

Conservators treating paintings from the Nancy and Norton Dodge Collection of Nonconformist Art From the Soviet Union to be exhibited at the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. The Dodge Collection, which opened to the public in 1995, now comprises about 20,000 works. Artists represented there include some who are well known in the West today, among them the conceptual artists Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid.
 

Attending a Masterclass in Holland

Rustin recently attended a Conservation Adhesives Masterclass in Maastricht, Netherlands. Fourteen conservators of all specialties, from countries around the world, gathered to learn the latest on polymer adhesives from conservation consultant, Velson Horie. http://www.horie.co.uk/

Educating America's Future Conservators

                    The future of fine art conservation is assured with Rustin Levenson's programs to educate the next generation of fine art historians and conservators. Here Rusty is speaking at a graduate level exhibition seminar. The class was a collaboration between the Zimmerli Museum and the Department of Art History at Rutgers, The State University.

Conservation of Unconventional Artist's Materials

      Rustin examining a collection of paintings by Purvis Young at the Frost Museum of Art on the Florida International University Campus. An outsider artist, Purvis Young is a special challenge to conservators because he used materials found on the streets of Miami as supports for his paintings.

Celebrating the newly restored Keith Haring mural

              In 1989, legendary activist/pop artist Keith Haring completed his mural Once Upon A Time in one of his favorite spaces: the men's room at the LGBT Community Center in New York City's Greenwich Village. Through the generous support of Mark Fletcher and Tobias Meyer, the 23 year old mural surface was stabilized and restored.

Examining a painting by Joseph Cornell

    Part of this week's Miami Studio agenda included the examiniation of a Joseph Cornell painting from the collection of the Miami Art Museum. Here is studio director Rustin Levenson examining a painting by Joseph Cornell. 

Four Dali Masterwork Paintings To Be Treated

                     Rustin Levenson examines the reverse of a large painting at the Dali Museum. In the spring eight conservators from our studios will treat the four large masterwork paintings.
